Ballinrobe Musical Society and the Mask Swim Challenge have donated €1,250 and €300 respectively to the Campaign to Rebuild Ballinrobe Town Hall.

This latest boost to the coffers means that local fund-raising in Ballinrobe has now passed €325,000.

“This is the second time that both the Musical Society and the Swim Challenge have contributed to the Town Hall fund in recent years. It just goes to show how committed they are to supporting the rebuilding of the hall,” said Michael Sweeney, chairperson, Ballinrobe Town Hall committee.

The Musical Society staged My Fair Lady this year and the €1,250 was a portion of their raffle takings for the week of the show. The Mask Swim Challenge is a popular local event among young and old and attracts a large crowd to Cahir Pier each year to cheer on the participants.

The Town Hall committee is now trying to access public funds to propel the campaign to build the hall.

“We have met with key people in public positions to tell them about the great fund-raising carried out locally, and how we believe this project now warrants significant public support,” added Michael.

The proposal is to build a hall with a gross floor area of 1000m2. It will consist of an auditorium and main hall area with seating for over 400 people.

Anyone interested in supporting this major project should contact Chairperson Michael Sweeney (087 2588 615) or Secretary Siobhan O’Malley (087 207 2307).
